Johannes de Jager, dubbed the ‘Butcher of Kraaifontein’ is fighting for his freedom in the Western Cape High Court. He’s accused of murdering 16 year old Charmaine Mare and dismembering her with a tree cutter. de Jager admits he chopped up her body, but claims that she died when she slipped and hit her head on the edge of the bath. This documentary will focus on the tragic life of Charmaine Mare, a young girl who had come to Cape Town in search of work to help provide financial support for her poverty stricken parents. The teenager had dropped out of school and left her home town, Kriel, in a bid to start a new life and create a better future for herself and her parents.
