Inspired by the need for innovation in floating architecture, Clear Rivers tested out the best ways to catch, sort and repurpose the plastics. By now most of us are aware about the issue of plastic pollution, it had a pretty good press over the last couple of years. Over one million animals are killed each year due to plastic debris. Ramon Knoester, the founder of Clear Rivers, noticed that 80% of plastics worldwide enters the oceans through rivers. Inspired by the need for innovation in floating architecture, Clear Rivers tested out the best ways to catch, sort and repurpose the plastics. They have created the floating park, a new structure on Rotterdam harbour filled with greenery to benefit not only humans but also urban wildlife. Now their patent can be applied on other rivers worldwide.
