Episode Information

There’s a new force that’s transforming 10% of the planet’s surface, and it’s visible from outer space: Beavers! That’s right - the humble beaver - or rather, hundreds of thousands of beavers. They’re on the move and headed to where they’ve rarely been seen before - the Arctic.

Images captured by NASA’s ABoVE project - the Arctic Boreal Vulnerability Experiment - used by northern scientiest looking at climnate change, noted this transformation seeing that Beaver ponds have doubled, taking over the entire western Alaskan tundra in the last 20 years.

In 'Beaver's From Above' we follow an intrepid team of scientists, environmentalists, and northern trail-blazers in the wilds of North-west Alaska and then to the shores of the Arctic Ocean in Canada’s Northwest Territories. They’ll be riding in 4x4s to remote locations, jumping into choppers for aerial surveys, travelling by boat to explore critical waterways, donning chest-waders to take water samples, flying drones, hiking across spongey, challenging tundra terrain, and exploring massive beaver works in a quest for answers to some big questions surrounding this invasion.
