All habi-tats present difficulties, but the challenges of the desert are more obvious than most – scorching heat and a lack of consistent food and water sources make them one of the most hostile environ-ments on the planet. But with great challenges, as in all areas of the natural world, come incredible solutions. Despite the deadly conditions, a hardy band of unique animal and plant species have adapted to meet the inhospitable desert conditions head on. Each one finds its own way to exploit and conserve the available food and water in what is a daily struggle for survival. These incredible species are the true treasures of the desert.
