Episode Information
Every year some 15 million of us around the world cram onto little boats and head out onto the ocean, hoping for the encounter of a lifetime. For centuries whales and dolphins seem to have reached out to us, capturing our imaginations and our souls. Despite their popularity, much of their lives remain a mystery, taking place beneath the waves and beyond our reach. From giant sperm whales protecting their young, to dramatic humpbacks gorging on fish and the hunting skills and curious play of dolphins, we can’t resist the endless charms of marine mammals. Living with us is not easy, and, though we often let our friends down, scientists are at constant work trying to find out more about our mysterious underwater neighbours. The more we learn, the more they astound and thrill us, haunting our imaginations and fuelling our dreams.
