Episode Information

We love nature in all its glorious diversity. Some creatures we admire for their deadly beauty, others because they’re unbearably cute. But for some, it’s hard to figure out why we like them so much; they’re just plain weird. Often it’s because they have traits and behaviours that make them unlike any other animal. Sometimes they do things we can scarcely believe, living proof that life really is stranger than fiction. From sloths that move so slowly that algae grows in their fur, to Australian mammals that have beaks and lay eggs and little anteaters equipped with body armour. But all these things are just adaptations evolved to help animals survive the challenges of life in the wild. A world without weird would be a poorer place; we should embrace our quirks and enjoy the weird and wonderful diversity of the natural world.
