Chiselled from the land by the power of the ice age, fjords are one of the most dramatic landscapes on Earth. But for all their beauty and majesty, the surface spectacle is just the tip of the iceberg. Fjords stand witness to some of the greatest natural wonders of the animal kingdom. Fjords are to be found in only the coldest parts of the world. Summers are harsh and winters almost intolerable; this is a wild place where only the toughest survive. Whether just below the surface, at the murky depths of the sea floor or on dry land, the fjords offer an incredible bounty to an abundance of wildlife. There are few places on earth that offer such a range of habitats in so inhospitable a landscape. Shelter to some and home to others, their majesty is a testament to the variety of creatures that thrive in their shadow.
